What It Does
Found in more advanced multi-zone or multi-evaporator refrigerators, the flow control valve (also called a distributor valve or expansion valve) regulates the flow and distribution of refrigerant between multiple evaporator circuits — such as separate fridge and freezer coils.
Signs It Has Failed
- One compartment not cooling while the other functions normally
- Hissing or gurgling sounds from the refrigerant circuit
- System running constantly without reaching target temperatures
- Refrigerant pressures abnormal on gauge testing
