Fridge Flow Control Valve (For Advanced Systems): Estimated Price & Labour Cost

What It Does

Found in more advanced multi-zone or multi-evaporator refrigerators, the flow control valve (also called a distributor valve or expansion valve) regulates the flow and distribution of refrigerant between multiple evaporator circuits — such as separate fridge and freezer coils.

Signs It Has Failed

  • One compartment not cooling while the other functions normally
  • Hissing or gurgling sounds from the refrigerant circuit
  • System running constantly without reaching target temperatures
  • Refrigerant pressures abnormal on gauge testing

Estimated Part Price

  • Generic: €20–€60
  • OEM: €50–€180

Estimated Labour Cost

  • 60–120 minutes (sealed system work)
  • Labour charge: €90–€180
  • Total repair estimate: €110–€360

DIY Difficulty

Very high — professional only. This repair requires refrigerant recovery, component replacement within the sealed system, evacuation, and recharge. Only licensed HVAC/appliance technicians with refrigerant handling certification should attempt this repair.
