Fridge Condenser Coil: Estimated Price & Replacement Labour Cost

What It Does

The condenser coil is located at the back or underneath the refrigerator. It releases the heat absorbed from inside the fridge cabinet into the surrounding air, completing the refrigeration cycle. Without proper heat dissipation, the fridge cannot cool effectively.

Why It Fails

Condenser coils rarely need full replacement, but they can corrode, develop refrigerant leaks, or become so clogged with dust and debris that they restrict airflow entirely. Physical damage from moving the appliance is another cause.

Signs It Needs Attention

  • Fridge running hot on the exterior
  • Compressor running continuously without adequate cooling
  • Visible rust, damage, or leaking oily residue near the coil

Estimated Part Cost

  • Condenser coil unit: $100 – $300 (residential)
  • OEM or brand-specific coil: $200 – $500+

Estimated Labour Cost

  • Labour for coil cleaning: $50 – $100
  • Full condenser coil replacement (parts + labour): $200 – $650
  • If refrigerant recovery and recharge is required: add $100 – $300

Maintenance Tip

Clean the condenser coils every 6–12 months using a vacuum or coil brush. This single maintenance step can significantly extend the life of the compressor and prevent costly repairs.
