Demo / Display Mode Active (No Cooling) — Sources and Solutions

Demo mode (also called Display mode, Showroom mode, or Shop mode) disables all cooling in the refrigerator while keeping the lights, display, and controls fully active. It is designed for retail showrooms to allow customers to interact with the product without running the cooling system unnecessarily.

What Triggers This Code?

Demo mode is activated by pressing and holding a specific combination of panel buttons simultaneously — usually two buttons held for 3–5 seconds. It is commonly triggered accidentally during cleaning, moving, or by children pressing multiple buttons at once.

Signs That Demo Mode Is Active

  • Display shows OF F, DEMO, or a similar indicator
  • Refrigerator lights work normally but interior is not cold
  • Fans may or may not run depending on the brand
  • Compressor is completely silent

Solutions

  • Identify your model’s exit sequence: Common combinations include holding the Refrigerator and Ice Plus buttons simultaneously for 5 seconds (LG), holding the Freezer and Fridge buttons (Samsung), or holding the Power Freeze and Power Cool buttons together.
  • Consult your user manual: Demo mode exit sequences are always documented in the user manual under “Special Modes” or “Store Mode.”
  • Search by model number: If the manual is unavailable, search “[your model number] demo mode deactivate” for the exact sequence.
  • Allow up to 24 hours for temperatures to stabilize after exiting demo mode — the compartments will be at ambient temperature and require time to cool down fully.
