Communication Failure at Power-Up — Solutions

Communication Failure at Power-Up — Solutions

This code appears immediately when the refrigerator is powered on, indicating that one or more boards failed to initialize or establish communication during the startup handshake.

Signals

  • Error code displayed within seconds of plugging in
  • Refrigerator does not begin cooling after power-up
  • Display lights up but shows only the error code
  • Previously working unit fails after a power outage

Solutions

  1. Try a different power outlet — rule out a low-voltage or faulty outlet.
  2. Inspect for power surge damage — a surge can permanently damage board firmware. Check for visible burn marks.
  3. Plug through a surge protector — if the error clears, the outlet or supply was the issue.
  4. Check all inter-board connectors — power-up communication failures are often caused by a loose harness that disconnects during vibration or moving.
  5. Use a service mode — many brands have a key-press combination to enter diagnostics at power-up. Consult your service manual to identify which board is not responding.
  6. Replace the non-responsive board — if one board consistently fails to respond at startup, it has failed and must be replaced. Start with the least expensive board (usually the display board) before replacing the main PCB.
This article collection is intended as a general diagnostic guide. Always consult your refrigerator’s model-specific service manual and follow all safety precautions when performing repairs. Work involving refrigerant systems must be carried out by a certified technician.
