Communication & Control Board Codes — Overview and Solutions

Communication & Control Board Codes — Overview and Solutions

Communication codes indicate that two or more electronic modules inside the refrigerator are failing to exchange data correctly. Modern refrigerators have multiple boards (main control board, display board, inverter board, etc.) that communicate over a data bus.

What to Check First

  • Did the error appear after a power outage or surge? A reset may resolve it.
  • Are multiple functions failing simultaneously (display, ice maker, temperature)?
  • Are any wiring harness connectors loose or visibly damaged?

General Solutions

  1. Hard reset — unplug for 5–10 minutes to allow all boards to power down and restart.
  2. Inspect all wiring harnesses — disconnect and firmly reconnect each harness plug, especially those linking the main board to the display or secondary boards.
  3. Look for moisture or corrosion — water ingress is a leading cause of communication faults.
  4. Identify the faulty board — if one board is clearly burnt or damaged, replace it.
