Fridge Light Switch (Door‑Activated): Estimated Price & Replacement Labour Cost
What It Does
The door-activated light switch (also called the door switch) is a spring-loaded button pressed by the door when closed. When the door opens, the switch releases, completing the circuit to turn on the interior light — and in some models, also activates the fan cutoff.
Signs It Has Failed
- Light stays on when door is closed (causes internal heat and energy waste)
- Light never comes on when door is opened
- Fan stops working (on models where switch controls fan too)
Estimated Part Price
- Generic: €3–€12
- OEM: €10–€30
Estimated Labour Cost

DIY Difficulty
Very low. Presses and snaps into a pre-drilled hole in the door frame. A simple two-wire connector in most models. Test with a multimeter before replacing.
